Under the auspices of Karunya Sangha Vedi, Kochi in connection with Gandhi Jayanti, a cleaning drive was conducted and fruit tree saplings were planted on the premises of the Koovappadam Anganwadi in Kochi. In the commemoration ceremony that followed, attendees offered floral tributes one by one before the portrait of Gandhiji. Division Councillor Mrs. Aswathy Gireesh inaugurated the event. The Councillor stated that we must strive to follow the freedom of India, which Mahatma Gandhi achieved through non-violence, by upholding his principles and values. Karunya Sangha Vedi President Mr. P.G. Lawrence presided over the function.
Bharatiya Human Rights Forum District Secretary Mr. Shaji Edappally delivered the keynote address. The keynote speaker remarked that Gandhiji has increasingly become a historical figure confined merely to textbooks, and social organizations like Karunya Sangha Vedi must make efforts to pass on Gandhiji's ideals and values to the new generation. Vice Presidents Mrs. T.P. Sophia and Mrs. T.J. Jain, Secretary Dr. Sujith, Treasurer Mr. Sebastian Bernard, Committee Convenors Mrs. Sherly Peter, Mr. P.T. Boniface, Mrs. Chandini Ronald, and Mr. Antony Palluruthy, along with teachers Mrs. P.M. Safiya, Mrs. A.S. Ambili, and Mrs. Shalini Kunjumon, also spoke at the event.
