Kochi Karunya Sangha Vedi’s “Onappulari 2025” was celebrated in a grand manner on 28-08-2025 (Thursday) at 10 AM at the Animation Hall of Santhome Church, together with the mothers of Palluruthy Karunya Bhavan, kidney and cancer patients, and their family members. The program was inaugurated by Benny Fernandez, the first Chairman of the Kochi Metropolitan Planning Council. He stated that Karunya Sangha Vedi is an organization that has been working sincerely with strong social commitment for the welfare of society for a long time. He further mentioned that he has a clear understanding of this, and he commended the members for working wholeheartedly towards the upliftment of society and the protection of nature by embracing people from all walks of life.
The keynote address was delivered by Mr. J. Sanalmon, Chairperson of Kochi Corporation’s Town Planning Department. He noted that the books and food kits distributed months ago to students from families affected by sea intrusion were so large that a single person could hardly carry them. In his presidential address, Mr. P.T. Boniface, President of Karunya Sangha Vedi, said that the organization conducts 12 monthly meetings, 15 executive meetings, and more than 20 public programs every year.
Fr. Sachin Pazerikkal, Assistant Vicar of Santhome Church, delivered the Onam message. He reminded the audience of the memories of Maveli Nadu (the legendary kingdom of Mahabali) and said that we should work together in unity for a society without lies and deceit, where everyone is embraced equally. At the event, Adv. Sibin C. Varghese, State General Secretary of Citizen – Community & Consumer Grievance Redressal Organization (C.GRO Mission), presented the ISO 9001 certification and the 80G and 12A approvals to the President of Karunya Sangha Vedi. The distribution of food kits to the elected beneficiaries was inaugurated by (Retd.) Major R. Rajesh. Onam gifts for the mothers at Karunya Bhavan were jointly distributed by Fr. Siju Paliyathra, Director of Fatima Hospital, and Mrs. Fousiya Basheer, Director of Sulekha Moosa Foundation.
Professional singer Mr. Shabeer Marakkar, along with Mr. P.G. Lawrence (General Secretary), Mr. P.K. Natesan (Vice President), Mrs. T.P. Sophia, Dr. Sujith M.S. (General Convener), Mrs. A.S. Ambili (Secretary), Mr. Sebastian Bernard (Treasurer), Mr. P.P. Jacob (Program Coordinator), Mrs. Joyce Antony (Palliative Convener), Mrs. Maglin Jackson, and Mr. Antony Palluruthy, also addressed the gathering.
On the occasion, people working in various fields of society were honored. As part of the Onam celebrations, a beautiful floral carpet (Pookkalam) was created, and a variety of cultural programs were presented. The celebrations concluded at 2:30 PM after the sumptuous Onam feast (Onasadya).
